To restore fish passage past Raydon Mill, Suffolk due to the present winding gate acting as an obstruction to fish migration upstream. This is a key element of the current Water Framework Directive which outlines requirements for the improvement of upstream passage for migratory fish.

Scope of Services:

  • 3D-GPS Site Survey
  • Initial fish pass design
  • Detailed fish pass design
  • Analysis of flows, velocities and depths
  • Analysis of influences on flows in main channel
  • Deign drawings, including entry/exit structures

Create's Role:

Create Water were enlisted to carry out modelling and detailed design of the proposed solution, a fish pass following the course of a present drainage ditch which bypasses the winding gate and mill pond entirely. the team carried out the design of the channel so as it would meet the strict velocity, depth and flow requirements of the relevant Environment Agency guidance so as the final solution was suitable for the broadest range of fish species across the largest range of flows.
