Aim:

Create Energy were appointed by Barnes Construction to assist Marston's plc to develop an environmentally friendly 'model pub' for role out across the UK.

...................................................................................

Create's Role:

Create worked closely with the whole design team, including Barnes Construction and JWA Architects, to develop a practical and cost effective sustainable building design to achieve a BREEAM 'Very Good' rating.
The model building has been designed to minimise operational energy demand, consumption and CO2 emissions over the building's lifetime. The model has been designed to remain flexible to future changes in the Building Regulations Part L and incorporation of renewable technologies. SBEM, Simplified Building Energy Modelling, was used to model the energy performance of the building and its resultant carbon emissions. Thermal modelling of the building was undertaken to provide informed design advice to ensure appropriate thermal comfort and energy efficiency were achieved within the design. At a number of sites, further reductions in carbon emissions will be seen through the incorporation of PV panels to supply a significant proportion of the energy demands of the pub. In addition to the energy performance, other sustainable design features include: timber frame construction, natural ventilation, metering of energy and water, travel plan, and ecological and biodiversity enhancements.
