Welcome Sophie Gadsdon


Create would like to welcome graduate Sophie Gadsdon. Sophie has lived in Langham Norfolk for most of her life and attended Gresham’s School in Holt. She has recently moved to Norwich.

Sophie studied BSc Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London with her main interests being Environment, Climate and Sustainability. Throughout this time she undertook field trips to Nerja, Spain and Malawi, Africa where the biodiversity and conservation of plant species on Mount Mulanje was studied.

For her dissertation Sophie travelled to Copenhagen University for five weeks in order to investigate multiple ice cores from Greenland at the Niels Bohr Institute, Centre for Ice and Climate. Here she studied the volcanic tephra deposits within each layer of ice and chemically matched them to eruptions that occurred throughout the mid-Holocene era. Other experience includes working at the City of London Epping Forest Management Centre, where Sophie learnt the basics of GIS (Geographical Information Systems) and formed layered maps of the park. Further to this, she spent time in the forest learning about the methods used to sustain and protect the area and species.

Sophie enjoys playing hockey, having played for her University team. Sophie has also taken part in various charity projects including visiting Rwanda, Africa to help out at with the local communities and schools.
